Gowrie Street Newsletter 25th March 2022

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

This week we celebrated Harmony Day with each section running a variety of activities across the week.

Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, based on the successful integration of migrants into our community. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. At Gowrie St we embrace and celebrate the diversity of our school community and make sure that everyday in every way EVERYONE BELONGS.

AFL ZOOM SESSION

On Monday we had a Zoom chat with Dion Prestia, Kane Lambert and Josh Gibcus from the Richmond Football Club. They talked about their career and how they became AFL Football Players. At the end of the presentation James, Ashlyn and Fahd represented our school in a Richmond Themed Kahoot, taking out the top prize. Winning the school, a prize pack- Mr Jack McCormick PE Teacher.

CROSS COUNTRY

On Tuesday the 29th of March we are hosting our Dream Big School Cross Country at the park along The BLVD at 11:45am. We invite you to come along and either watch or participate with your children. Everyone that attends will earn their child's house 1 bonus point and those who participate with their child will receive 2 bonus points. After the race, we will be having a free sausage sizzle at school for families and students. We encourage all students and family members to come dressed in their house colours.

DREAM BIG

This term's Dream Big is going to be run across a few days.

Due to COVID safe settings, we have needed to change it up a bit so this is why we have the three parts.

Part 1 is our Cross country next Tuesday.

Part 2 is happening next Friday where students will undertake a range of activities across the day with the theme of What We'll Build. This theme comes from a fantastic book by Oliver Jeffers.

Many of our students have been using this book to think about the lives they will build, in themselves, here at school, out in the community and the world.

We are inviting families to come to a Dream Big Assembly where there will be a showcase of performances. This will be at 2 pm next Friday. A flyer will be sent home shortly about our assembly.

Part 3 is our Hopes and Dreams student-led conferences. These will happen in the first week of Term 2. You will receive a letter about this in the last week of this term.

Campfire Conversations

As part of the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026, schools are extending an invitation to their Koorie students, families and community members to come together to share their ideas about what self-determination in education means to them. Our Campfire Conversation will be on Wednesday next week. An emailed invitation was sent out this morning but you can see it here also.

5-6 Camp

You can see some pics of us getting ready to set off for camp in the weekly slideshow. You can see photos of the great activities HERE. We will have a camp report next week.
