This Week's Award Winners

End of Term 2 Highlights
As Term 2 comes to a close, we want to celebrate the incredible learning, achievements, and opportunities that have made this term so special at Gowrie Street.
Cross Country
Our students showed determination and school spirit at the Cross Country event—running with pride and encouraging one another every step of the way. It was fantastic to see so many students challenging themselves and celebrating their personal bests!
Gregg Dreise Author Visit
We were thrilled to welcome author Gregg Dreise to our school, where he shared his storytelling wisdom and inspired our students to find their voice through writing. This was a fantastic cultural learning opportunity that sparked creativity and connection across all year levels.
Excursions Across the School
This term, learning went beyond the classroom:
Prep–Grade 2 students explored the animal kingdom at the Melbourne Zoo.
Grades 3–4 dove into the wonders of marine life at the Aquarium.
Grades 5–6 experienced Melbourne city life and even got to spend time at Ms Chapman’s farm, connecting with nature and learning about horses!
Student-Led Conferences & Learning Milestone Postcards
We were proud to host our student-led conferences with 88% of students presenting their learning. Students shared their goals, progress, and next steps with confidence. Our new Learning Milestone postcards have also been a huge hit—students loved receiving them and sharing their learning successes with their families.
The Dreaming Art Project (Grades 4–6)
Our senior students participated in a powerful art project The Dreaming, that brought together technologies, Yorta Yorta language and dance, music to create and amazing artwork.
Kaeila Arts Partnership
Five students from Grade 6 took part in this extended project to write songs in Yorta Yorta and then perform them. Our students worked really hard and their work shows the learning, their pride in their culture and the hard work they put in.
Interschool Chess Tournaments
A highlight this term has been our running of and participation in interschool chess tournaments. Students have not only developed strategy and focus, but built new friendships and represented our school with pride and respect.
Foodshare Fundraiser Presentation
Our school proudly presented at the Foodshare Fundraiser, celebrating our partnership and showcasing how community support helps us thrive. We are so proud of the students who spoke so confidently and shared their story.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for another wonderful term of growth, learning, and community. We wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to another exciting term ahead!
The Gowrie Street Team
Let’s Lift Our Attendance Together!
At Gowrie Street Primary School, we know that every day at school matters. When students attend regularly, they make progress in their learning, build stronger friendships, and feel more connected and confident. That’s why we’ve set a new attendance goal—and we need your help!
In previous years, we’ve focused on lifting the attendance of students with the highest absences.
This year, we’re aiming to increase the number of students with 90% attendance or higher. What does that look like? Just one day or less away from school each term.
Last year, 41% of our students met this goal. This year, we’re aiming for 60%—but right now we’re sitting at only 35%.
We’re part of a network of schools working hard to improve attendance, and we want to show what a strong and successful community we are. To do that, we need families on board.
We’ll be on the lookout for students and families who are achieving 90% or more—because it’s something to celebrate! Whether it’s arriving on time, pushing through a sleepy morning, having a school birthday celebration or choosing school over a day at home, your effort makes a difference.
Let’s work together to give every child the best chance to succeed. If you need support to improve your child’s attendance, please speak with us—we’re here to help.
Let’s aim for 90% and beyond—together!
