ATTENDANCE

At Gowrie Street, we’re all about giving every student the best chance to learn, grow and succeed—and being at school every day plays a big part in that.
We know that life gets busy and things come up, but we want to take a moment to talk about how important regular attendance is. When students are at school consistently, they not only stay on top of their learning, but they also build really important life skills like responsibility, routine and time management.
Why attendance matters
-
Learning builds day by day – Each lesson connects to the next, so missing even a few can make it harder to catch up.
-
Friendships and confidence grow at school – Being part of our coevery day helps kids feel included, build strong relationships, and learn how to work and play with others.
-
Good habits now lead to success later – Showing up every day helps prepare students for life beyond school.
Even small amounts of time away from school can start to add up. Research shows that missing more than 10% of school (about 4 days a term) can affect learning progress—no matter the reason for the absence.
We get it—sometimes it can’t be helped
We absolutely understand that children get sick or that family emergencies happen. When they do, just let us know so we can support your child to stay on track. What really makes a difference is avoiding days off for things like holidays or appointments during school hours, when possible.
Let’s work together
Here are a few simple ways you can help your child have great attendance:
-
Encourage them to come to school every day unless they’re unwell.
-
Try to book appointments and family events outside of school hours.
-
Talk to us if there’s something getting in the way of your child coming to school—we’re here to help.
We’re so grateful for your support in helping our students make the most of every school day. If you have any questions or need a hand, just give us a call or speak with your child’s teacher.
Thank you for everything you do to support your child’s learning and future. Together, we can help every child thrive.
